Debenham Sports & Leisure Centre is a fantastic place, built and run by the local community for local people. Since opening in 1972 it has grown steadily into one of the main sport and social hubs in Mid Suffolk.
It's well used by many of the community, thanks to it's welcoming staff and the impressive range of facilities including the indoor and outdoor sports spaces, community cafe, and events hall.
With so much already on offer, improving how people arrive become the next focus for the trustees and Debenham Green Team who drive practical action on sustainability, from cycling initiatives to energy efficiency.
A new bike shelter was needed that would look great into this rural landscape and provide charging for the growing number of e-bikers opting to leave the car at home.

The solution:
A fully off-grid, solar-powered powerPARK, providing:
All without the need for trenching, cabling or grid connection, keeping installation simple and low impact.

We were over the moon to answer Phil's call and it's great to see that the new powerPARK is already in regular use, supporting local cyclists and encouraging longer visits to the site. As uptake of e-bikes continues to grow, it also positions Debenham as a welcoming stop-off and charge-up point for regulars and visitors exploring the surrounding countryside, helping to shift more journeys towards active, low-carbon travel.

Phil Jaynes, Debenham Sport & Leisure Centre Trustee
powerPARK is off grid and uses 100% solar energy to charge up e-bikes and other light electric vehicles without the need for expensive trenching or cabling. The Debenham team are delighted; “Not having to install cabling was a massive positive. The project came about after joint planning and consultation with Debenham Green Team who work tirelessly to promote environmental protection, together with funding support from Mid Suffolk District Council sustainable travel initiative. It is already being regularly used by cyclists and as the weather improves we are looking forward to welcoming our first e-bike tourists discovering the primrose verges in the quiet lanes of Suffolk.”
